ANALYSIS OF SOCIOLOGICAL THEMES IN THE POETRY OF KARA VAHAP

Kara Vahap continues to maintain his presence as a significant figure in Iraqi Turkmen literature today. This poet, renowned for his poetry, hails from Kirkuk and has compiled his poetry books, published in various years, into two volumes. Kara Vahap has always prioritized his homeland and people, depicting the challenges faced by Iraqi Turkmen in his poetry alongside the resistance and struggle shown by the people. In this context, the focal point of the study is the societal issues addressed in Kara Vahap’s poems written in Turkish. In these socially themed poems, elements such as the Turkmen nation, patriotism, spirit of struggle, martyrs, society in the changing new world order, embargo period, and elements related to starvation stand out. Additionally, the words in the poet’s verses effectively reflect experiences, evoking emotions in the reader. Kara Vahap states that his goal in reflecting the experiences of the Turkmen nation in his poems is to instill a sense of patriotism in future generations. Examining the poems of Kara Vahap, who reflects the significant milestones of his life with his unique style and form, starting from the period he lived in, sheds light on what Iraqi Turkmen experienced as a society. This study aims to draw attention to how cultural transmission occurs through poetry.
