Abstract

In contemporary society, talkof“sustainable development” has finally becomethe norm. It is indicative that in 2015theUnited Nations included sustainable development in their “Transforming our World” Declaration, as featured in the 2030 Agenda. This Agenda adopted 17 goalsand 169 targets, and it constitutes the most ambitious global agreement achieved by the UN, especially considering that it forms a comprehensive action planfor peace and prosperity for people andthe planet(Hellenic Aid, 2019). Museums and cultural sites must bear part ofthe responsibility for achieving this plan. Obligations come with it, given that these institutions partake insociety and the fabric of daily life. This present articledetails the innovative ways in whichGreek thematic museums can adaptto sustainable development goals, and more evenlymeet new challenges of domestic and global economy and tourism
